By virtue o f and pursuant to the authority vested in me by the provisions of paragraph Eighth o f Subdivision Second of section 2 o f the Civil Service A ct o f January 16, 1883 22
Stat. 403, 404, paragraph 5, Subdivision VH1 of Schedule A
of the C ivil Service Rules, is hereby amended by adding there to the follow ing subparagraph:
k Guards, scalers, field assistants fo r reconnaissance parties, forem en engaged upon road or trail construction, and telephone operators, employed tem porarily during the season o f danger from fires or when special Work requires additions to the regular, forest force. Such employees shall serve only so long as absolutely required and in no case beyond the usual field season. So fa r as the Commission may deem practicable, appointments o f such employees shall be made from the registers o f eligibles.
