On Friday, June 5, 1987 at 10:10 A.M. the hour appointed for the meeting was 10:00 A.M.
Honorable Harold Washington, Mayor, called the City Council to order. The clerk called the roll of members and it was found that there were present at that time: Aldermen Roti, Rush, T. Evans, Bloom, Sawyer, Beavers, Caldwell, Shaw, Vrdolyak, Huels, Fary, Madrzyk, Langford, Streeter, Jones, J. Evans, Garcia, Henry, Gutierrez, Smith, Davis, Hagopian, Figueroa, Mell, Austin, Banks, Giles, Cullerton, Laurino, OConnor, Natarus, Eisendrath, Hansen, Levar, Shiller, Osterman, Orr, Stone - 38.
Quorum present.
Invocation.
The Reverend Stephen Thurston, Pastor of New Covenant Missionary Baptist Church, opened the meeting with prayer.
TRIBUTETO LATE MR. WILBUR J. COHEN.
Honorable Harold Washington, Mayor, on behalf of himself and all the members of the City Council, presented the following proposed resolution:
WHEREAS, Wilbur J, Cohen, 73, the architect of Medicare and other social legislation, died on May 18, 1987 while attending a symposium in Seoul, Korea; and WHEREAS, Wilbur J. Cohen was born J u n e 10, 1913 in Milwaukee, to a Scottish-born entrepreneur and his wife; and WHEREAS, Wilbur J. Cohen earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics from the University of Wisconsin in 1934 and that same year was selected to join the staff of
