Reappointment.
S u bject to the prior approval of the Commission a former civilian employee who has ren dered at least one year of service in the executive branch o f the Federal govern ment or in the District of Columbia gov ernment m ay be reappointed by w ar service appointment to any position for which he meets the standards as to ex perience and education established for open competitive examination fo r such position: Provided, however, T h a t former employees entitled to military preference and those who would have a status for reinstatement under Civil Service Rule I X and the regulations in force prior to M arch 16, 1942, when the W ar Service Regulations became effec tive, may be reemployed under this sec tion without regard to the length of their previous government service.
Such reappointment must be for ac tual service and not prim arily fo r the purpose of bringing such form er em
ployee within the provisions of the Civil Service Retirement Act as amended.
Persons teappointed under this regu lation will be required to serve a trial period of one year in accordance with 18.5 c of this chapter.
