By virtue of and pursuant to the au thority vested n me by section 1752 of the Revised Statutes of the United States 22 U.S.C. 132 and the act o f July 3, 1926, 44 Stat. 887 22 U.S.C. 211a, it is ordered that the Foreign Service Regu lations of the United States be, and they are hereby, amended by prescribing the following as Chapter X X I thereof :
CHAPTER XXI NATIONALITY, PASSPORTS, REGISTRATION, AND PROTECTION

Nationality
titled Rules Governing the Granting and Issuing of Passports in the United States as may be applicable to the issu ance o f passports abroad, and with such administrative regulations as may be prescribed by the Secretary of State.
b When required to do so by the Secretary of State, issue such documents other than passports as are prescribed by the terms o f the Foreign Service Regulations.
c Verify, renew, amend, extend, and cancel American passports in accordance with such regulations as the Secretary of State may prescribe.
d Perform such other miscellaneous services in connection with American passports and other travel documents as are required under the terms of the Foreign Service Regulations.

XXI-1. Duties in Connection with N a tionality Matters. Officers of the Foreign Service shall familiarize themselves with those provisions of the laws of the United States which relate to the acquisition and loss of American nationality and shall perform such duties in connection there with as may be provided for by law or by administrative regulations prescribed by the Secretary of State.

X X I-3 . Duties of Officers of the F or eign Service in Connection with Registra tion of Nationals. Officers of the For eign Service shall perform such duties in connection with the registration o f American nationals abroad as may be prescribed by the Secretary of State.
