G o l d S t a b M o t h e r s D a y
By the President o f the United States o f America.
A PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS the preamble to Public Resolution 123, 74th Congress, approved June 23,1936, recites:
WHEREAS the service rendered the United States by the American mother is the greatest source o f the countrys strength and inspiration; and WHEREAS we honor ourselves and the mothers o f Am er ica when we revere and give emphasis to the home as the fountainhead o f the state; and WHEREAS the American mother is doing so much fo r the home and fo r the moral and spiritual u plift o f the people of the United States and hence so much fo r good government and humanity; and WHEREAS the Am erican Gold Star Mothers suffered the supreme sacrifice of motherhood in the loss o f their sons and daughters in the W orld W ar;
AND W HEREAS the said Public Resolution 123 provides:
That the President o f the United States is hereby author ized and requested to issue a proclam ation calling upon the Government officials to display the United States flag on all Government buildings, and the people o f the United States to display the flag and to hold appropriate meetings at their homes, churches, or other suitable places, on the last nnriay in September, as a public expression o f the love, sorrow, and reverence of the people of the United States fo r the American Gold Sta Mothers.
S ec . 2. That the last Sunday in September shall hereafter be designated and known as Gold Star M others Day, and it shall be the duty of the President to request its observance as provided fo r in this resolution.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, F R A N K L IN D. ROOSEVELT, President of the United States o f America, under and by virtue of the authority vested in me by the aforesaid public resolution, do by this proclamation designate Sunday, Sep tember 27, 1936, as Gold Star Mothers Day and direct Gov ernment officials to display the United States flag on all Gov ernment buildings, and do call upon the people of the United States to display the flag and to hold appropriate meetings at their homes, churches, or other suitable places on that day a public expression o f the love, honor, and reverence of the people of the United States fo r the Am erican Gold Star Mothers.
IN W ITNESS W HEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the United States o f Am erica to be affixed.

B y virtue of the authority vested in the Secretary of A gri culture by the Agricultural Adjustment Act, approved M ay 12, 1933, as amended, the Secretary of A g ric u ltu re does hereby find and proclaim that in connection with the execu tion o f a m arketing agreement and the issuance o f an order regulating the handling o f m ilk in the D istrict of Columbia M arketing Area, the purchasing power o f such m ilk during .the base period August 1909 to July 1914 cannot be satis factorily determined from available statistics in the Depart ment of Agriculture, but that the purchasing power of such m ilk can be satisfactorily determined from available statis tics in the Department o f Agriculture fo r the period August 1924 to July 1929; and the period August 1924 to July 1929
is hereby found and prtxdaimed to be the base period to be used in connection w ith ascertaining the p u rc h a s in g power o f m ilk handled in the D istrict of Columbia M arketing Area, fo r the purpose of the execution of a m arketing agreement and the issuance of an order regulating the handling of said m ilk in that area.
In testimony whereof, the Secretary o f Agriculture has hereunto set his hand and caused the official seal of the Departm ent o f Agriculture to be affixed in the city of W ash ington, D istrict of Columbia, this 8th day of September 1936.
