BY THE PRESIDENT OP THE UNITED STATES
OF AMERICA
A PROCLAMATION

WHEREAS the United Nations pro vides the peoples of the world with an organization through which interna tional differences in the economic and political fields can be peacefully resolved;
and ___
WHEREAS the need fo r the United Nations is greater than ever before, and its success depends on the extent to which its members give it support; and WHEREAS the expression of our faith in and support of the United Nations will encourage and bring hope to the peoples of other nations who are also working toward a true peace with freedom and justice for all; and WHEREAS the General Assembly of the United Nations has declared that October 24, the anniversary of the entry into force of the United Nations Charter, should be dedicated each year to the dis semination of information concerning the aims and accomplishments of the United Nations:
NOW, THEREFORE, I, D W IG H T D.
EISENHOWER, President of the United States o f America, do hereby urge the citizens of this Nation to observe Satur day, October 24, 1953, as United Nations Day by sending messages to friends, rela tives, and associates in other member countries of the United Nations, by learn ing more about the United Nations and its members, and by expressing their con fidence in the United Nations, their friendship for other peoples, and their faith in the ultimate triumph of peace and justice through the efforts of men of good will.
I also call upon the officials of the Federal, State, and local Governments, the United States Committee for United Nations Day, representatives of civic, educational, and religious organizations, agencies of the press, radio, television, motion pictures, and other communica tions media, and all citizens to cooperate
in appropriate observance of this day throughout our country.
IN W ITNESS WHEREOF, I have here unto set my hand and caused the Seal of the United States of America to be affixed.
DONE at the City o f Washington this 31st day of July in the year of our Lord nineteen hundred and fifty seal three, and of the Independence o f the United States of America the one hundred and seventy-eighth.
