WHEREAS, by virtue of a proclama tion by the President of the United States of America, dated May 1,1915 39

Stat. 1725, the citizens of Italy are, Gopyright E x t en sio n : I taly and since May 1, 1915, have been, en BY THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES titled to the benefits of section 1 e of the aforementioned act of March 4,1909:

NOW, THEREFORE, I, HARRY S.
A PROCLAMATION
TRUMAN, President of the United States WHEREAS the President is author of America, under and by virtue of the ized, in accordance with the conditions authority vested in me by the aforesaid prescribed in section 9 of title 17 of the title 17, do declare and proclaim:

and formalities prescribed by the copy works of citizens of Italy subject to re right laws of the United States of Amer newal of copyright under the laws of the ica, with respect to works first produced United States of America on or after or published outside the United States September 3, 1939, there has existed of America and subject to copyright or during several years of the time since to renewal of copyright under the laws September 3, 1939, such disruption or of the United States of America, by na suspension of facilities essential to com tionals of countries which accord sub pliance with the conditions and formali stantially equal treatment to citizens of ties prescribed with respect to such works by the copyright laws of the the United States of America; and WHEREAS the President of Italy has United States of America as to bring issued a decree, effective from this day, such works within the terms of the afore by the terms of which treatment sub said title 17, and that, accordingly, the stantially equal to that authorized by the time within which compliance with such aforesaid section 9 of title 17 is accorded conditions and formalities may take in Italy to literary and artistic works place is hereby extended with respect to first produced or published in the United such works for one year after the date of States of America during the period this proclamation.
