DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION
Federal Aviation Administration 14 CFR Part 39
Docket No. FAA20210198; Project Identifier MCAI202000950E
RIN 2120AA64
Airworthiness Directives; Rolls-Royce Deutschland Ltd & Co KG Type Certificate Previously Held by RollsRoyce plc Turbofan Engines Federal Aviation Administration FAA, DOT.
ACTION: Notice of proposed rulemaking NPRM.
AGENCY:
The FAA proposes to supersede airworthiness directive AD
20201307, which applies to all RollsRoyce Deutschland Ltd & Co KG RRD
Trent 1000D2, Trent 1000J2, and Trent 1000K2 model turbofan engines with a certain part-numbered fuel pump installed. AD 20201307 requires removal and replacement of the fuel pump with a part eligible for installation. Since the FAA issued AD
20201307, the manufacturer determined that an additional partnumbered fuel pump is subject to the same unsafe condition identified in AD
20201307. This proposed AD would add an additional part-numbered fuel pump and additional Trent 1000 model turbofan engines to the applicability.
This proposed AD would require new and reduced life limits, depending on the engine model, for affected fuel pumps. The FAA is proposing this AD
to address the unsafe condition on these products.
DATES: The FAA must receive comments on this proposed AD by May 14, 2021.

was prompted by the manufacturers investigation into an unexpected reduction in fuel pump performance in certain high life fuel pumps. AD 2020
1307 requires removal and replacement of the affected fuel pump with a part eligible for installation. The FAA issued AD 20201307 to reduce the risk of reduced thrust during engine operation.
