BY THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES
OF AMERICA
A PROCLAMATION

WHEREAS travel Is an important ele ment in the development of greater in ternational understanding and thus tends to promote international peace;
and WHEREAS visitors from other lands have traditionally found in the United States a friendly welcome from a people whose primary concern is for peaceful accomplishments in their economic, social, and cultural life; and WHEREAS the citizens of this Nation are desirous of sharing with our world neighbors the pleasure and adventure of visiting our country and of viewing its natural beauties, its cities and villages, and its historic shrines ; and WHEREAS special preparations are being made by both private and public agencies to encourage and facilitate travel to and within the United States during the year 1960:
NOW, THEREFORE, I, DWIGHT D.
EISENHOWER, President of the United States of America, do proclaim the year 1960 as Visit the United States of Amer ica Year; and I request the appropriate officials of the Federal Government and of the several States, Territories, posses sions, and municipalities of the United States to cooperate in the preparation for, and observance of, that year.
I also urge business, labor, agricul tural, educational, and civic groups, as well as the people of the United States generally, to observe 1960 as Visit the United States of America Year with ex hibits, ceremonies, and other appropriate activities designed to forward the pur pose of promoting international under standing and world peace.
IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have here unto set my hand and caused the Seal of the United States of America to be affixed.
